Building Community at RTA
Our focus this year is community. During the school day, we've been hard at work developing a school-wide culture that is both supportive and rigorous. Here are the some of the ways that we have been building community and developing Oso Pride at RTA:
Oso Values: Values we strive for as members of the RTA community
Toolbox: Social emotional tools students learn to develop strong social and emotional skills
Big Bucks and Paw Points: Our positive behavior management system
Team and Family Awards: One way we celebrate outstanding student achievement
We encourage you to read on to learn more about how we're building community because you, RTA families, are our most important allies in this work. By reinforcing Oso Values, using Toolbox tools at home, volunteering at the Oso Store or attending the Team and Family Awards ceremony, you are helping create a stronger school community for your child.

Oso Values
Community: We are a group of people who help each other work together as a team!!!
Equity: We know we each have different needs and we work together to make sure everyone’s needs are met. Growth Mindset: We are not defined by our failure, we have the strength to learn from our mistakes and celebrate our growth. Empathy: We care and feel for others while also caring and feeling for ourselves. In order to be empathetic, we need to develop compassion, an open mind and understanding. Integrity: We have the courage to own our actions and words. We use self-control to do the right thing even when no one is watching. Curiosity: We ask questions and make connections about the world and people around us, and are open to learn ways to understand these. We use our five sense to explore our environment. |
ToolBox
There are 12 Tools of the Toolbox project. These are tools that reside inside us and help us develop strong social and emotional skills and meaningful, satisfying relationships. This year, your child will learn about the 12 Tools through wonderful stories and literature, fun projects, role-plays, class discussions, and through Home Connection activities to share at home with you and your family. The 12 Tools of our inner Toolbox are: Breathing Tool, Quiet/Safe Place Tool, Listening Tool, Empathy Tool, Personal Space Tool, Using our Words Tool, Garbage Can Tool, Taking Time Tool, Please and Thank You Tool, Apology and Forgiveness Tool, Patience Tool, and Courage Tool.
The tools are simple, but they are not easy. They require practice, practice, practice and more practice. We invite you to support your child in learning and practicing these Tools at home by talking with them about what they are learning about the tools at school. By learning together about the Toolbox tools at home, you are helping your son/daughter, and us, create a happier, healthier school community, together. |
